FAQs

Answers to the most frequently asked questions

What is the evaluation process like?

After we've agreed to an evaluation, I will then collect background and developmental information about your child. Testing will then follow on a different day, and behavior rating scales will be distributed to you at that time, if necessary. Testing may have to take place across several testing sessions, depending on the complexity of the case. Scoring and interpretation will follow. Finally, once the report is completed, we will meet to discuss the results and recommendations.

How long will it take to get the results of the evaluation?

Reports for gifted evaluations will be available within 48 hours from the final testing session.
Due to the complexity and depth of the psychoeducational/psychological evaluations, reports other than gifted, may take up to a month to complete. However, they are very thorough, which allows parents to obtain a clear picture of the difficulties of their child and ways that they can help him/her.

What testing is included in a psychoeducational/psychological evaluation?

This depends on the referral question. For gifted evaluations, an IQ test is usually enough. However, you may also request achievement testing to be completed, although not necessary. Evaluations, outside of gifted testing, will likely include an IQ test and/or an achievement test. In addition, behavior rating scales will be administered, depending on the problem being assessed. Projective tests will be included in social-emotional evaluations. As a case evolves, different forms of assessments may be deemed necessary to provide a parent with the most comprehensive evaluation and results possible.

How long does each therapy session take?

An initial intake session for counseling/therapy is 60-75 minutes. Counseling/therapy sessions for teenagers and adults are 55-minutes.
Counseling/therapy sessions for children are also 55-minutes, but include 10-minutes of debriefing with the parents.

What population do you provide services for?

Comprehensive psychoeducational/psychological evaluations are only available for children and teenagers.

Intellectual Assessments (IQ tests) are available for children, teens, and adults.

Counseling/therapy is available to children, teens, and adults.

Please keep in mind that if an individual presents with a concern or problem that is outside my scope of practice, a referral will be provided to another practitioner or agency that is better suited to help you.

Which insurance companies are you in-network with?

I currently participate with Aetna, Cigna, and BCBS of Massachusetts (virtual network). Insurance benefits must be verified prior to session to determine available coverage.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept all major credit cards, cash, Paypal, Venmo, and Zelle. A 3% convenience fee will be added to all credit card payments.
For mental health counseling/therapy services, if I do not take your insurance and if you request it, I will gladly provide you with a superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement through out-of-network benefits, if these are available under your insurance plan. It is your responsibility to find out what your out-of-network benefits are and to follow through with your insurance company about this, as I will not be processing any out-of-network insurance claims.

When is payment due?

For psychological/psychoeducational evaluations, half of the total cost is due prior to the first testing session. Final payment is due at the end of the last testing session, and prior to the release of the evaluation report.

For counseling/therapy payment is due at the beginning of each session.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes. Clients are required to provide a minimum of 24-hours' notice if they need to cancel or reschedule a session. A $75 cancellation fee will be assessed for no-shows or if canceling with less than a 24-hours' notice.
